CPE's founding partner Wai Cheng started his own practice in 1980 after over a decade of work for large structural companies in Vancouver and Toronto. By 1981, he had added a partner and C&V Engineering was created, which remained in operation until 2003. C&V Engineering provided structural consulting and engineering for diverse projects including: small property renovations, large mixed-use developments, office buildings, industrial installations, multi-unit residential projects and retail projects for clients including: McDonald's, Shell, Canadian Tire and Loblaws. In 2003, C&V Engineering was dissolved and two independent companies were formed from the staff of C&V; one of these being CPE Structural Consultants Limited. CPE's current partners Chris Palin and Renée Tang both worked for CPE from the late 1990's onward.

CPE commenced operation on January 1, 2004 with six employees. CPE currently employs approximately 10 staff. CPE continues to provide structural engineering services for buildings of all types, including: industrial/warehouse buildings, office buildings, institutional projects, multi-story residential, and retail projects across Canada. CPE has been pleased that the quality of our work and service has allowed us to have an ongoing relationship with repeat clients, including: Loblaws, Canadian Tire, The Daniels Group, and Turner Fleischer Architects Inc.
CPE is a technical member of the Canadian Institute of Steel Construction.
